What is moped insurance?

Moped insurance is a legal requirement in Austria. Third-party liability insurance covers damage caused to third parties in connection with the use of a moped. In addition, comprehensive insurance can be taken out as an optional extra. This covers costs arising from damage caused by bad weather, theft or damage to your own moped.

When is moped insurance a good idea?

In Austria, all mopeds must be covered by at least the statutory third-party liability insurance. However, this only covers damage to third parties caused by you. For additional protection, it is advisable to take out partial or comprehensive insurance for your moped.

Partial or comprehensive insurance for my moped?

Partial comprehensive insurance covers damage caused by external factors such as bad weather, animals, parking damage, vandalism or theft. You should therefore check whether there is an increased risk of such incidents at your home or place of work.
Comprehensive insurance also covers damage to your own vehicle. Comprehensive cover is always worth it for new, leased, very rare or expensive mopeds. It is also a good idea to take out comprehensive cover if you use your moped very frequently.

Register your moped number plate & get a discount on your premium

If you do not use your moped (applicable to two-seater mopeds) during the winter months, it is worth registering your number plate.

There are two options:
During the winter, please leave your number plate and vehicle registration certificate with a vehicle registration office. During this period, we will waive your entire insurance premium.
To avoid the red tape involved in registering a number plate, you have the option of waiving registration. This involves taking out a policy with a seasonal number plate. Although you will continue to pay the insurance premium during the winter months, we will waive 35% of the total premium.
