Motorbike insurance covers damage that occurs in connection with the use of a motorbike. While statutory liability insurance covers damage to third parties after an accident, additional comprehensive insurance also covers the costs of your own motorbike. Comprehensive insurance also covers storm damage, theft and personal injury.

The cost of motorbike insurance depends on several factors. These include:

  • Type of insurance: The insurance premium depends on the scope of cover selected. Pure liability insurance is the cheapest. Comprehensive insurance covers the most risks and is therefore more expensive.
  • Motorbike type: The type of motorbike also influences the insurance premium. Displacement, power and age are decisive factors. A new motorbike with an engine capacity of 650cc, for example, is more expensive than a used scooter with 125cc.
  • Discount through licence plate deposit or seasonal licence plate:
If the licence plate is deposited over the winter months or a contract with a seasonal licence plate is selected, Allianz grants a premium discount of up to 35%.
  • District of residence and age of the driver:
The insurance risk and therefore the premium depend on

In Austria, all motorbikes must at least be covered by the legally required liability insurance. However, this only covers damage to third parties caused by you. For additional protection, it makes sense to take out partially or fully comprehensive insurance for the motorbike.

All Allianz car insurance packages include legal advice by telephone, but do not cover the costs of legal matters. Additional motor legal protection insurance is therefore advisable to cover claims for damages or criminal law matters.

To register a motorbike, you must have motor vehicle liability insurance.

Checklist for motorbike registration:

  • Official photo ID of the applicant(s)
  • Confirmation of motor vehicle liability insurance
  • Proof of approval: type certificate, extract from the approval database, individual approval
  • For used vehicles: purchase contract, invoice or other documents showing the purchase
  • For a new motorbike: Entry of the owner(s) in the type certificate or purchase contract, invoice, confirmation of sale, provided the name of the buyer(s) can be seen from it

Deregistration of the license plate means that you temporarily hand in your license plate and registration certificate at a registration office. During this period, your insurance contract is suspended, and you save on the insurance premium that would otherwise be due.

You can deregister your license plate for a minimum period of 45 days. Typically, this is done from 1 November to 1 March of the following year. During this time, your license plate and registration certificate are deposited at a registration office, your insurance is suspended, and you save on your premium.

If your motorcycle is taken out of service through deregistration or by depositing the license plates, it remains insured only under a comprehensive insurance policy. This coverage is then limited to so-called 'garage risk': from this point on, only insured events that occur inside a garage or designated parking space are covered. You will receive a corresponding premium discount for this period.

Important:
Please don’t forget to notify us immediately once the deregistration has been cancelled!

No, accidents and damage in this respect are not covered by Allianz motorbike insurance.
