Types of dog health insurance

Option 1

Accident cover

Our accident insurance for dogs comes into effect if your dog needs to see a vet following an accident. 80% of veterinary and surgical costs are covered up to the agreed limit per incident.
Option 2

Accident and health cover

With our combined package, you can insure your dog against both accidents and illnesses. Here too, 80% of veterinary and surgical costs are covered up to the agreed limit per incident.

When is dog insurance a good idea?

Ideally, you should take out pet insurance whilst your dog is still a puppy. After all, a dog can fall ill or have an accident at any time. The associated veterinary costs are usually very high. And the younger your four-legged friend is, the lower the annual insurance premium will be. Furthermore, a dog can also cause damage to third parties, which may result in high claims for compensation. It is therefore also worth taking out dog liability insurance as early as possible.

Good to know: Dog liability insurance

Liability insurance for dogs is compulsory in most provinces of Austria. Only Burgenland, Carinthia and Vorarlberg are exceptions.

But is liability insurance for dogs really necessary? Yes! Dogs can quickly cause minor and even major damage to third parties. One moment of rough play and your dog has broken someone's glasses or mobile phone.

Property damage, even amounting to millions, can also happen quickly. For example, if your dog runs across the road and a car swerves to avoid it and crashes into the crash barrier. It is therefore worth taking out liability insurance just in case.

How much does dog insurance cost?

Allianz dog insurance costs between €239 and €709 per year*. The premium depends on the age of the dog when the insurance is taken out, the package selected and the agreed total annual compensation limit. Costs for dog liability insurance may also be added.

For 2-year-old Holly, accident insurance was taken out at the age of 3 months for €239* per year. While playing, she injured her paw, and the veterinary costs amounted to €439. Thanks to the accident cover, 80% of the costs were reimbursed.

Case study: Dog liability insurance

Two-year-old Charly runs across the road to her friend. A driver swerves his car, damages five parked vehicles and crashes into an upmarket shop window. As the dog owner, you are liable for damages amounting to €200,000. However, with optional dog liability insurance costing €36* per year, the costs incurred are covered.

Petplan Plus: Comprehensive cover

Allianz's Petplan Plus ensures your pet's safety when you are unable to do so. If you are temporarily unable to care for your dog due to hospitalisation, Petplan Plus will cover the costs of caring for your dog. In the event of the death of the dog owner, the costs of caring for the dog will be covered up to a one-off amount of €400.

Petplan Plus also provides cover throughout Europe. If something happens to your pet while you are abroad, 70% of the veterinary costs will be covered. The process is the same as in the UK.
