Short waiting times and assumption of costs with private doctor insurance
Maximum comfort with private health insurance for the special class
Financial support during hospitalisation with daily allowance insurance
Health insurance allows you to insure yourself beyond the statutory level of Austrian health insurance. This means that risks that are not covered or only partially covered by statutory health insurance can be insured. This means that if additional services are required, they must be paid for out of your own pocket. Private health insurance fills these gaps by covering services that are not covered at all or only partially covered. This can range from private doctors and special classes to daily allowances.
Enjoy the best possible medical care and maximum comfort during your stay in hospital, including a choice of doctors and hospitals.
Choose your own private doctors and therapists and save yourself long waiting times - we cover the costs.
Whether due to illness, accident or childbirth, in Austria or abroad - secure a fixed amount per day for inpatient medical treatment in hospital.
Treatment in the desired (private) hospital by doctors you trust
Best possible healing without worrying about high treatment and surgery costs
Quiet single or twin rooms, choice of meals and personalised care
Shorter waiting times for surgery appointments for a speedy recovery
The earlier the insurance is taken out, the lower the premium
We take care of direct billing with the contract hospitals
With private supplementary health insurance, the costs of treatment by elective doctors, inpatient treatment in a private hospital or accommodation in a special class are covered as agreed.
The amount of the premium for your health insurance essentially depends on your desired scope of benefits, your age, your federal state of residence and your state of health. You can also take advantage of a combined discount if you take out private doctor and special class insurance at the same time.
In Austria, there is a statutory health insurance scheme and various private health insurance schemes. The difference between statutory and private health insurance is that the former is compulsory for those in employment above the marginal earnings threshold and private health insurance can be taken out voluntarily. With private health insurance, you can choose from different benefits to cover your individual needs.
All persons employed in Austria above the marginal earnings threshold are subject to compulsory social insurance. The costs of treatment by panel doctors and care in public hospitals, outpatient clinics and rehabilitation centres are covered by social insurance. You can obtain more detailed information on the respective health insurance benefits from your social insurance provider. Costs incurred for treatment by elective doctors without a health insurance contract and for hospitalisation in a special class or a private hospital are not covered and must be paid privately.
With private health insurance, you receive additional cover that goes beyond the scope of benefits provided by statutory health insurance. You can choose from different packages. The most important and most popular benefits of private health insurance include free choice of doctor, free choice of hospital (private hospital or special class) and, as experience shows, shorter waiting times for treatment and operations.
You can cancel the contract at the end of the 3rd insurance year with a notice period of three months. Thereafter, you can cancel the contract annually on the main due date with a notice period of three months.
After visiting a doctor or receiving health care (e.g. physiotherapy), please settle the invoice and copy or photograph it together with the prescription or referral.
Submit receipts to the statutory health insurance company. You will receive a written notification.
After receiving the notification, submit the invoice via the customer portal or the "My Allianz - Austria" app. You will need: ✓ the statement from your statutory health or health insurance fund ✓ the invoice or fee note for the service utilised
Note: Since 1 July 2024, elective doctors are legally obliged to submit invoices paid by patients directly to the Austrian Health Insurance Fund (ÖGK), which saves you as a patient the effort of manual submission. If you expressly agree to this, elective doctors will send your invoices electronically to the ÖGK, you will automatically receive a refund and can submit the ÖGK invoice directly to us via the Allianz customer portal. As a rule, you will receive up to 100% of your invoice amount back (except in the dental and jaw area). Elective doctors may be exempt from this rule. You should therefore enquire about this possibility with your elective doctor. In this case, however, you still have the option of submitting your invoice to the statutory health insurance fund yourself.
